Version 7 of Internet Explorer has now been around for a few months, but many users still use older versions. Here are a few reasons why I think drastic measures are necessary to force users to upgrade. Continue reading ‘Webpages should no longer be developed for Internet Explorer 6′

I wrote a small application that makes it easy to download the e-paper from wort.lu as a PDF document for easier reading. More information as well as a download link can be found in the software section of this website. It is a first BETA release, so there will be bugs which might obviously never be fixed ;-). You need to have a valid account for the e-paper on wort.lu in order to use the application. Oh, and before I forget it, I am not responsible for any problems that will might occur.
Today I finished reading “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by Philip K. Dick. I had intended to read it for a few years now, but for whatever reason I didn’t do so before last week.
The book is set in a polluted, post-apocalyptic world following World War Terminus. It explores many interesting concepts. In my opinion, the most interesting one is the “what if” situation of humanoid androids becoming more and more indistinguishable from real humans. Throughout the book, it becomes clear that the real question is what qualitites make us humans distinguishable from other beeings.
With each revision of their “brain unit”, androids are becoming more and more intelligent and seemingly self-conscious. Humans, on the other side are increasingly depending on their Mood Organs, an apparatus able to induce emotions in its users. They are thereby becoming inert to natural stimuli and to their natural environment.
I really recommend the book. It is quite a light reading, but nevertheless profound enough to get absorbed by it over a few evenings.
Maybe a little late to write this, but hey, better late than never: Two weeks ago (27th of July to be specific) I was at an Air concert at the Abbey Neumünster in Luxembourg City. The concert was great, but unfortunately a little short-winded. I really love their music, which could be classified somewhere inbetween electronica and psychedelic rock. Especially their previous album Talkie Walkie is quite catchy. I hope they’ll be back soon ![]()
I finally converted my old outdated website to a Web 2.0ish blog. I will try to keep it up-to-date, so check back regularly or subscribe to my RSS feed. Some content from the old site might not have been completely copied, so there might be some dead links.
Among the content my readers will find here are personal thoughts, articles about technical gadgetry, code snippets or whatever stuff comes to my mind.
