The Dos and Don’ts of Web-Development

I’ve just written an article on “The Dos and Don’ts of Web-Development“:

At the beginning of the 21st century the internet is probably the most-used medium of communication. Millions or even billions of websites spread across the globe. Their contents span areas such as commercial, private, political, governmental, educational, informational,

Unfortunately, many professional websites focus on design, rather than working out a well-defined balance between content and design. In the following paragraphs, I will try to put together a number of tips and guidelines that I like to work with. They will hopefully help you to improve your web presence as well.

New Layout

I finally finished the new layout (though smaller changes might still occur during the next days). It is, hopefully, more modern and appealing than the old one. As to the content, I plan to upload new photos soon, as well as write an article about web development, so stay tuned.

All new: CSV-Stad.lu

This morning, the new website of the local CSV section in Luxembourg-City has been activated. I wrote the backend of the site, whereas the layout has been created by Binz Communications. The CSV being the largest political party in Luxembourg, this project has been pretty important for me.

CSV.lu revamped

The new version of CSV.lu (the website for a political party in Luxembourg) has been officially released today. I wrote the backend and the administration system and I recreated some graphics. Here are just a few of the additions:

  • a function to export events from their online-agenda to the vCal- or iCal-format,
  • an extensive (but nevertheless easy-to-use) administration interface,
  • a system for their local sections to manage their own subdomains,
  • a new search engine,
  • as well as many more interesting features. (Actually I wrote a 20-pages document for them where all the changes are listed).

PHP-GTK Installer: Update

Today, I updated my PHP-GTK-Installer.
Changes:

  • New version of the PHP-GTK components (1.0.1)
  • PHP-GTK-scripts now run without showing the console windows. To show the console window (e.g. when you want to debug an application), you can right-click on a “.php-gtk”-file and select “Open With Console Window”.

This new version includes the PHP-GTK launcher (Freeware) by Christian Weiske. Thanks to him for letting me include his software into my package.

NewsletterManager

New program added to the software section. It is called NewsletterManager and it allows you to manage an (almost) unlimited number of email-addresses and send as many Newsletters as you want. Beside this, I also updated the PHP-GTK-installer.
